I don't think I have the
intellectual capacity to be able to give this movie the review it deserves. Knowing me, I might make it sound like a normal, good, comedy film. But it's not. It's way more than that. I might even have to go back to college in order to fully
comprehend the meaning, the implications, the relevance of this film.
All I can say is that it's
brilliant. It's wonderful. It's terrific. I don't know enough words to be able to describe exactly how
great I found this movie. My friends and I were even in very high spirits for the next, at least 15 minutes, after the credits started rolling up the screen. It was so
worth the additional traveling time that's inclusive of every trip to Festival Mall from our house. And I can't believe that
again, this movie was taken out of the SM and ATC Cinemas way too early. This shoud be a blockbuster picture, an award-winning film, it should've been more
publicized, it's worth more
attention...
The actors and actresses were incredible, and the writing was flawless. It was funny, smart, and the twist at the end was fitting yet unpredictable. This is one of the
best movies I've ever seen, and I don't care if people who (for some reason) don't like it would call me closed-minded about it, I'm pretty sure that nobody would convince me to change my opinion about this film.
Nevermind that the
sci-fi parts weren't very accurate (because you never know, maybe in the book it was based on, there really was a credible scientific explanation for the circumstances, and it was just edited out of the film because it took too much time), everything else was
perfect.
I think everybody should watch this film, and buy an original DVD when it's out. It is most definitely worth it. I might even say that it's worth more than that.
Some other notes:
* This is a Paramount Pictures/Dreamworks collaboration, two of the best companies in the industry, so no wonder it's so great.
* There was a film in 1975 also called 'The Stepford Wives', based on the same book so it has the same plot, only, it was more a suspense/horror film than a comedy one.
* The genre this falls in in the Yahoo! Movies is Comedy/Drama/Romance/Science Fiction/Fantasy/Thriller. Oddly enough, it is, exactly that. (How many movies can say that about themselves?)
* Nicole Kidman has got to be one of the most beautiful women in history.
I'm sorry there's not much information on this review, but there's so much good stuff to say about this movie, I really don't think I'll do it justice. Just watch it!
