I've always
liked the Garfield cartoons and the comic books. I also own several Garfield figurines, shirts, and until a few years ago, stuffed toys. But this was one Garfield merchandise I
didn't really like. In fact, I remember my exact words to my friend were: "
Mabuti't cute si Breckin Meyer," and "
Natatawa ako sa ka-corny-han [ng movie]."
There were scenes in which the badly-animated Garfield were
dancing (to a
Black Eyed Peas song, by the way (I don't really like them) and
singing a trying-to-be-sentimental song. It wasn't a very pretty sight. Garfield was also neither funny nor sarcastic enough, and the rest of the characters were even more
boring. And the plot, was almost non-existent. Or, okay, there
was a plot, but I couldn't help but think
Toy Story rip-off the entire time, as what Garfield kept complaining about, really, was that he wasn't Jon's
favorite anymore, just as how Woody felt bad about Andy liking Buzz better. Plus, there was that whole thing about crossing the street in the big city and causing a
pile-up that happened in both movies. It really isn't funny when you see it more than once, even if it's in another movie the second time you do.
Just to not be completely
negative, I guess I'd mention what my friend said about this film--it's at least the kind that's good to watch at
parties, because you don't necessarily have to pay attention to its story or any of its details, but it gives you something to do.
A Cinderella Story

Have I mentioned I liked teeny-bopper chick flicks? I'm sure I have. But have I mentioned that I'm actually a Hilary Duff
fan? Because I am. I even have her album, if you can believe that. It's mostly the fault of having too much free time during summers and thereby getting hooked on Lizzie McGuire on Disney Channel because the character Gordo (who is not only cute, but abnormally smart too) caught my attention. But it's not just because of
Hilary Duff why I like this movie. Neither is it because of
Chad Michael Murray who plays Austin Ames, Hilary Duff's character Sam Montgomery's Prince Charming. Although, he
was awfully cute at some parts.
The
transition that the
Cinderella Story made from fairy tale to real life (or, as real as life can get in the movies) was actually very good. All events were plausible, although I couldn't help but think that the writers just couldn't think of a better
conflict for Austin's character and so they used the overused idea of 'guy being forced by his dad to do something he doesn't want to' just so he'd be all
disturbed, and the girl would have something to be
understanding about
(She's All That, much?)
. I guess in fairness, this is actually still a pretty
common problem for teenagers and maybe that's what they were going for--so more kids could
relate.

So aside from those I already said, the other reason why I really liked this movie was because of
Dan Byrd. (Who?)
Dan Byrd.
Leave it to me to like the
loser friend better than the all-around-everybody's-favorite-hero/prince-charming/football-captain. Even
if my sister says that
she saw him first. She's
wrong--
I was the first who noticed that Carter Farell was cute, I just didn't say anything. But really, for a brief moment, I even thought he was being played by Drake Bell (from Nickelodeon's
The Amanda Show &
The Drake and Josh Show). But he's not, even if the two actors share the same
initials. But, whatever, it doesn't matter which of us saw him first, since Hilary Duff's the one in the movie with him, and the other cute guys on the sets. It's really a good thing that her character ends up with the jock--Hilary can take all the
popular guys she wants and drive off into sunsets with them for all I care, as long as she leaves her loser guy buddies to me--and I do mean
both Carter (Dan Byrd) and
Gordo (Adam Lamberg from
Lizzie McGuire).
Hm, I guess the seemingly insightful me who wrote that 'review' on
Eternal Sunshine... seems really shallow now, huh? Oh well, I'm just sorry these movie reviews are
late.
