More Reasons to Watch Local Television

Catching Up

Promise, one of my biggest regrets from going abroad was missing this and the whole hype that came with it. Maybe it's shallow, and a trip abroad was definitely worth missing it, but like I said, my priorities are never in the right order. Besides, ang saya yata talaga kung nandito ako nun, at sabay kong nalaman kasama ng buong Pilipinas kung anong nangyari. Luckily, my sister taped it, so kahit papaano, pwede pa rin akong maka-relate, kahit medyo huli na.

The Grand Questor

Hero AngelesA while back, I was bloghopping and saw several blogs with entries regarding Fantasia winning American Idol. Well, I haven't really been bloghopping since I got back from Bangkok, but I'm hoping it's not too weird that I put an entry here, not about Fantasia (I don't even care about her, or the whole American Idol thing--another proof about my distorted sense of priority), but about the winner of the Star Circle Teen Quest contest of ABS-CBN, Hero Angeles.

I actually
predicted that Hero was going to win ever since bad publicity began for the rest of the last 5. I figured, since Hero was the only one who didn't seem to have bad publicity, sucky though his comedy skills might be, he was also the one who knew how to answer questions, using words like, "inspiration" or "dream", getting the sympathy and respect of the audience, and judges alike. Plus, from out of all my friends (and I think I have about a handful), they all had at least one questor they hated, and none of those was Hero. And so to me, it was quite obvious that he was going to win. But aside from that, I'm also really happy he did, because he really was the one I wanted to win ever since the beginning.

Sandy Land

I mentioned just a moment ago that my friends hated at least one out of the 5 final questors. The one most of them hated was Sandara Park.

Some of them hated her because they said she was taking Hero away from them, calling him her Hero, as if she was his
owner. And the others said that there was just something about her aura that made them immediately think she was a b**ch.

Sandara ParkI saw somewhere on the internet a comment at one forum saying that Sandara's supporters suck because the person they were supporting (Sandara) didn't deserve it. Maybe she was right, but then, who is she anyway to say who's worth supporting? Fans are entitled to their own opinion, and even if Sandara wasn't worth supporting, she should just leave the fans to fool themselves. It's not as if Sandara's doing something that would affect our livelihood, such as run for President (God forbid).

Personally, I don't hate Sandara that much, or at all. I mean, everyone's got their
flaws, nobody's perfect, and if she makes mistakes, well, that just means she's human. And I don't think either that she's using Hero to her advantage. Well, maybe she is, but it wasn't as if she was the one who started pairing herself up with him. She just happened to go along with what the audience wanted, which is what anyone would do in showbusiness, right?

So, with that marked down, I'd say Sandara's actually pretty normal. I mean, you can't say that there aren't any actresses worse than her, right? And even if she is just starting, she's always had the most number of text votes, and I really think it's difficult to not let that kind of popularity go to your head.

My sister still hates her though because she's not Filipino, and although she's been here for at least 5 years, she still can't speak the language. My hunch is, she can speak the language, but she doesn't want to because she's afraid people would think she has a lousy accent. Or, at least that's how my Korean classmate feels. Besides, there are tons of Filipinos who can't speak Tagalog properly, and some of them don't have foreign blood, they're just rich. Also, I didn't hear anyone here saying that Jasmine Trias (is this the right spelling?) didn't deserve to be in the Top 3 of American Idol because she wasn't American.

SCQ Reload

At the moment, I'm waiting for when they finally show the first episode of SCQ Reload, the Berks-like sitcom starring the final 10 questors of Star Circle Teen Quest.

Truth be told, I don't really like how they write sitcoms and dramas here in the Philippines because they always have so many characters and complicated
side stories that it's difficult to know what they really want to say. And the situations the characters get placed in are so highly unlikely and exagerrated, even for fiction, that it seems not at all relate-able to the audience, which I think are mostly young adults who don't really have those complicated lives. But thanks to Cedric (Mikel Campos), I watch Sarah: The Teen Princess almost regularly, and if not for the whole, 'the evil uncle's after the grandfather's gold' stuff, I'd say the show was pretty funny, and makes a little bit of sense. This gives me hope that the TV scriptwriters are getting better and no longer just thinking of what sells, and therefore might be able to make an okay enough storyline for SCQ Reload.

I really hope the story's good, because I'd hate to see the talents that they've built-up to be idols, play mediocre roles, which would waste their popularity.

Huling Hirit na Hero

Well, can you blame me for not being able to
resist? I mean, here's a guy who's almost the carbon copy of Vic Zhou, and he not only lives here, but we can actually understand him when he speaks! It's almost as if the wishes that went "Sana lang naiintindihan kong mga sinasabi nila," when F4 had gotten so famous here (which was also around this time last year), have been answered. So, here's another picture of Hero Angeles, just for the heck of it.

HuaZeLei, ikaw ba 'yan?!?
