Fan Fiction

So I guess this bit of information about myself was bound to come out sooner or later.

I love fan fiction.

I can't explain why, exactly. My brother said that fan fiction was
pointless, because it wasn't real writing, that if, someone wanted to write something, he/she should use his/her own characters, plot, etc. I'm sure he has a point, but I don't get what's so evil about fan fiction still.

Isn't it
interesting to know what fans can think up about what else can happen to characters already established? Because the basics of those characters have already been laid, there's no need to develop them anymore or write more characteristics, which makes fan fiction easier, both to write and to understand. Although, it still takes a lot of creativity in finding new adventures, exciting events, etc. for those characters to go through. And I guess that's why I find fan fiction so fascinating. Because it just goes to show how much more can go on in a certain story, despite what the original author's aleady written. After all, two heads are better than one, and with so many great (unkown) writers out there, why shouldn't they write their own perspective on what they want to happen on popular books/movies/tv shows? Anyway, there are people like me, who'll appreciate them.

Basta. I love fan fiction. I love reading them, writing them, and commenting on them. I've once even written a fanfic of a fanfic. Because there was a scene in one fanfic I read that I liked so much, I thought of an alternative ending for the story. But it's already a fanfic that I was reading! Confusing?

Let me just get to the part where I give you a list of links to my favorite fanfics so this entry will have more sense.

Harry Potter:

Not as a Last Resort  - Hermione and Ron, a snowstorm, and Hagrid's cabin. Takes place during fifth year.

Getting the Point - Sequel to 'Not As a Last Resort'. Hermione and Ron at the Yule Ball, fifth year.

--> One of my friends said that once you've read these two fics, you'll never have to read another H/R fanfic again, because these two are the best ones ever written. I read them, and then a couple others afterwards. Now, I believe my friend.

Jennamae's Fanfics - This one is my friend's HP fanfic directory. She's a great author. Mostly because she's been writing, probably ever since she learned how to use a pen.

The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest:

Quest Enterprises - The most comprehensive library of JQ fanfics (finished/unfinished) is here, sorted by author, date, title, etc.

--> I know it's not exactly the most popular cartoon anymore, but I really liked it when it was, and if you search hard enough, you might even find my two fanfics in the archive somewhere. :P

F4 and Meteor Garden:

Flight - A young girl catches Vanness Wu's eye in a handshaking session. And then gets cast in one of his dramas.

Taking the Next Flight Back to You - Sequel to Flight. When everyone's grown and know a lot better about life.

Flowery Nature - Prequel to Meteor Garden. What happened in Ying De before San Cai ever step foot in it? How did F4 cause trouble then?

The Right Guy - A Jerry and Barbie love story. (This is also the fanfic I based my fanfic on.)

Once Bitten, Twice Shy - An alternate Hana Yori Dango universe wherein F4 and Tsukushi Makino are in a band.

Nakakadevelop si Vanness - Vanness comes to the Philippines, meets a pretty reporter and asks her out on a date, which doesn't quite end with the typical good-night kiss.

A New Direction - F4 goes to Hollywood, only to be directed by an amateur who, although he tries to deny it, Ken thinks is the prettiest girl he's ever seen.

Pour Me A Cup of Coffee - Two years before he gets famous, Jerry experiences something unexpected in a coffee shop. (This one's really short. Only 4 chapters.)

Date With Destiny - Jerry hosts an award show with the prettiest female model in Taiwan. Unfortunately, she's also the most irritating.

--> So, yes, I'm a fan, but even if you're not, these fics are still a great read. Some of them have really useful life lessons, about idolizing and meeting in-person, actors and heroes in general.

I hope you try to read at least one of those. It doesn't matter which. They're all good. Or, at least in my opinion they are.

Okay, maybe not all of them. Three of those fanfics are mine. But I'm not telling which ones. I'm also trying to work on a fanfic about Takeshi, but, lacked the time to finish it when I started, and now I lack the inspiration. Not because I like Takeshi less, but because I'm knowing more and more about him that I think I didn't write him well enough the first time I tried.

But that's what the backspace key is for, right?
