I Should've Seen 'Filipinas' Instead
Okay... I'm pretty sure it was a good idea to have seen Crying Ladies and Mano Po 2 during the Metro Manila Film Fest (MMFF) last December (Wow, old news. Why am I suddenly bringing up events that happened last December now?!). First, because I knew, just from the previews that Crying Ladies would most likely win Best Picture, as I think it was the most different and interesting from the rest of the nominated films. And second, because the Director of Photography (who won Best Cinematographer, by the way) of Mano Po 2 is the husband of my cousin (JA Tadena--he's also the father of the baby whose picture I posted a few entries ago).
Anyway, right after watching Crying Ladies, my mom asked me if I wanted to go see Filipinas as well, and seeing as its previews sucked--the characters were all basically just shouting at each other (Seriously, who'd want to see a movie with just that?), and my sister just sent a text message saying that she was in desperate need of company (Actually, it was more 'rescuing' that she needed because she just ran into people she really didn't like), I said no, and so we went on our way, not knowing that I actually missed out on something worth my while.
Isn't it weird how you find certain things in the past that you never thought note-worthy until you discover something recently and so think that those stuff in the past might actually be pointing towards something relevant in the present?
Maybe it's a little confusing and hard to explain, but really, I've always had this, talent (I like to think of it as one, since I don't have a lot of talents), to trace back to past events and find certain things--incidents, dialogue, etc. that indicate why things are how they are at present. I like to think of them as clues, or signs, guiding us and telling us what to do to get something we were meant to have. The only problem is, I figure those things out too late, like, now, when I suddenly have regret for not having said "yes" to my mom when she asked me to watch Filipinas because if I had, and we saw the film, then I wouldn't have discovered Mikel Campos just a few weeks ago when I caught a glimpse of him at Sarah:The Teen Princess at my aunt's house as I was waiting for my dad to pick me up.
Okay... So maybe it's shallow and it doesn't deserve the seemingly deep paragraphs I've just written (typed?). I mean, I'm just talking about a guy who's a celebrity, and I can see again anyway on TV every weekday at 5PM(-ish), but still... I kind of regret not having discovered him sooner (preferably last December before my last term in school started), so I would've been able to tell my friends that he's the actor that another guy I discovered (during my last term in school--in one of my classes) looked like. See, I was having a hard time describing this new guy (my classmate) and so they couldn't relate whenever I gushed about him and told them how cute he was. Besides, I so would've loved to like another guy (who's not Takeshi) over the Christmas vacation, since, although I'm so totally in love with Takeshi, I have to admit, my obsession about him is far from healthy (especially then, when the memory of his handshake was still fresh on my mind (well, it still is, but it was way fresher at that time since not a month had passed since I met him)), and I agree with my sister when she says my mind needs a break from 'Yasutoko thoughts'.
Anyway, the other 'sign' I only saw now, but happened a few months ago, is that one of my professors last term (in LITELEC - Philippine Film and Literature) who's also a film producer, produced only two films from the 9 that were entries for the MMFF. The films were Filipinas and Captain Barbell--the only two films, in which Mikel Campos was in. But since I only saw Crying Ladies and Mano Po 2, well... Doesn't that (the 2 films my professor produced is the same 2 films Mikel Campos was in) seem like a weird coincidence, though?
Or maybe, all of this is really just in my head, that I'm just too paranoid, too delusional, and too weird for my own good, and that's why I'm seeing all these signs in the past that I'm saying fate planted, hinting to me that I'm supposed to like Mikel Campos. Maybe. But I guess I'm also just hyper about it because it's another weird coincidence, how, oddly enough, 'Mikel' is just one letter short of the name of the guy I met in class, and had a crush on--the one I said who looks like him?
Well, one thing's for sure. I'm going to start watching Sarah : The Teen Princess on a regular basis.
Just a few more things I noticed ever since I looked up Mikel Campos' name on Google.
He was born on August 29, 1986 (I sure hope this info is accurate), which makes him a Virgo (the same sign as me), but also 2 years younger than me. Just like Takeshi.
Now, I'm sure only one of my friends would be able to relate to this, but what is it really with guys born on 1986? There's something going on with that year, because really, nearly all the guys I've met born on that year are cute. And nearly all the cute guys I see, were born on 1986. Seriously. I just mentioned Mikel and Takeshi (though I think Takeshi is way way cuter, plus he's got that whole world-record thing going for him so I still like him more), and then there's this other guy I met (who also kind of looks like Mikel) at a reunion of my mom and her friends, and also the cutest members of the Korean boyband TVXQ (Tong Van Xin Qi (?)). So, okay, that's just around, 5, and more babies are born in a day than that, but don't you think it's weird how, I know guys about 10 times more than that who are born the same year as me (1984), and yet only one of those have looks that come close to those 5 born on 1986?
Anyway, aside from that, Mikel also appeared in one episode of Wansapanataym - the one in which his character's mom disappeared into a magic trunk. Also, his name on the show (Sarah:The Teen Princess), Cedric, is (and I'm not lying about this) one of my most favorite names (Remeber Harry Potter 4? The other Triwizard contestant? Cedric Diggory? I really liked his name then, and I read that book when I was still in high school). And amazingly (and annoyingly) enough, there are still so few websites mentioning him. I even had to steal this picture (and it's not a very good one--it doesn't do him justice) from the ABS-CBN Website--and it's their only picture of him. I mean, you would think that if he was that cute, there'd be a few fan sites of him already, right? But I guess he's still not that famous. I can't think of a reason why.
