New
Really. I was dead set on regaining the anime-fanatic aspect of my personality on the few weeks before my birthday. I even asked my friend Dianne to give me copies of Hayao Miyazaki's films, to get me started. And then after that, I was planning on watching the Chobits series that my friend lent me, and then I'd borrow Full Metal Alchemist from whoever had it. But then, the day right after my birthday, my friend and I saw the movie (not the anime) Initial D. And without warning, all my thoughts were soon solely dedicated to Edison.
Yes, Edison. But not the Edison who invented the light bulb. This Edison is more... the one who lights up a room just by walking into it. No inventions needed. He's also known as the front-man of the Aiya Gang, or the host of MTV Whatever Things, but more importantly, he's the reason why Hong Kong Cinema will never go bankrupt. At least, until he retires. But it's not just his good looks that's got me hooked (na hooked :P).
Okay, maybe it is, because in real life, he seems to be this pretty-boy-rich-kid who's most probably a slacker, but really, his face, more than makes up for all that. It must be such a curse to be born so lucky.
And A Bit Alarming
So questions and speculations have been floating around as to whether I like him more than/just as much as/enough to replace Takeshi. And I have to say no. NO. Because Takeshi's, well, different. I mean, one doesn't just throw away the more than 5 years I've dedicated to Takeshi. So although my sudden obsession on Edison is reaching an alarming level (nearly fatal, as Katrina puts it), I want to assure everyone that this is most probably just a phase... that won't soon fade. :P
Who'd Have Ever Thought That This Could Be?
I've already borrowed 3 movies of Edison from my officemate, 2 from my old classmate, 1 from my friend. I've downloaded 1 Edison mp3, 1 music video, made 1 blog for/about him, and am in the process of writing a fic. Of course, I wrote fics about Drake Bell and Takeshi, too. But those took a longer time to develop, like, at least 6 months, while the Edison fic idea popped into my head, not a week later after watching Initial D. I've changed the theme of my phone to an Infernal Affairs one, which I downloaded yesterday, and the wallpaper to a pic of Edison I took with my cellphone camera from the computer monitor. I've also asked some people at home to record Whatever Things for me because I haven't seen an episode yet, although I did see some clips of it on the net.
If someone told me not even a month ago that by the end of September, I'd have no one but Edison Chen in my head, I'd have probably laughed and said, that it's not likely to happen. I saw him in Dummy Mommy Without A Baby already a couple of months ago after all. I guess there are things even my psychic powers can't foresee. Or, there was just something in him that I simply didn't see then.
If you didn't get the title and subtitles of this entry, you're obviously not a Disney movie fan. Anyway, before I end this, I just want to share something that I thought of somewhere in the middle of writing this entry:
If Thomas Edison was half as cute as Edison Chen, he needn't have invented the light bulb to brighten up a room. He merely had to walk into it.
